The Artist: the Art

As an artist, I feel no separation between myself and the work that I produce. I look to the natural world for my inspiration, something that has been true of me since I have been conscious of my own thoughts. There is a certain balance and rhythm in nature's cycles, the sources of inner strength and touchstones to daily remembering of a very old and deep nurturance. I feel there is a grace in the Earth's life forms that pulsates through, feeds from and to every other being. For lack of a better word, I call it "resonance", although that word has come so much into common language to have somewhat lost the magic in its meaning. When I am in that space of creating my work, I am at home with the pulse of my heart and the pulse of the planet and the connections between them.

Although my works are often very different one to the next, they carry similarities that have, over time, developed into my personal language of image making. There is the circle, which often becomes the moon or the sun in cyclic imagery, and the square, which often shows up as a grid, in representation of matrix. And nature's elements are everywhere: trees, animals, rhythmic symbols, mountains, rocks and so on. There is also connection to the ancient cultures and civilizations who have lived in common spirit with the life forms of the planet.

Whether I am making acrylic paintings, watercolor paintings, or prints, the thought process and underlying belief stuctures remain the same. I am grateful to have the means of expression and creative inclination to produce works so close to my heart.

It is my hope that others who view the work will be reminded of the earth's nurturing resources and the importance of protecting them.
